Privacy Policy
Effective Date: 15th April 2025
Introduction
This Privacy Policy describes how QuickPrompts (the "Service"), including the browser extension and mobile application ("App"), handles your information. Our commitment is to protect your privacy and ensure transparency in our data practices. By using the Service, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy.
This policy covers the QuickPrompts website, browser extension, and mobile application.
Information We Collect
QuickPrompts is designed with your privacy as a priority. We collect minimal information necessary to provide the Service's functionality.
Extension/App Data (Stored Locally)
The following data is stored exclusively on your local device using standard browser/OS storage mechanisms (`chrome.storage.local` for the extension, `AsyncStorage` and `SecureStore` for the mobile app). We, the developers of QuickPrompts, do not have access to, collect, or transmit this data to our servers.
- Prompts: Your created prompts, including their name, text, assigned category, color, and icon.
- OpenAI API Key (Optional Feature): If you choose to use the AI Prompt Enhancer or AI Categorization features, you may provide your own OpenAI API key. This key is stored securely on your device (using `chrome.storage.local` or `SecureStore`). It is used only by your device to communicate directly with the OpenAI API. We never see, store, or transmit your API key.
- Settings: Non-sensitive user preferences, such as the selected AI model ID for optional features or debug mode settings, are stored locally.
Website Data
Currently, the QuickPrompts website (quickprompts.dev) is a static informational site. We do not use cookies or tracking technologies like Google Analytics, and we do not collect personal information through website forms at this time. If this changes, this policy will be updated.
No Personal Information Required
The core functionality of the QuickPrompts extension and app does not require you to provide any personal information like your name, email address, or other contact details.
How We Use Information
The information stored locally on your device is used solely to:
- Provide the core functionality of the Service: Storing, managing, and injecting your prompts.
- Enable optional AI features (Enhancer, Categorization) when initiated by you, using your locally stored API key to communicate directly with OpenAI from your device.
Data Sharing
We reiterate: Your locally stored prompt data and optional API key are not shared with the developers of QuickPrompts or any third parties by the Service.
When you use the optional AI features, your device sends the relevant prompt data and your API key directly to OpenAI. This interaction is governed by OpenAI's Privacy Policy and Terms of Use.
Data Security
We rely on the security features built into your browser and operating system (`chrome.storage.local`, `AsyncStorage`, `SecureStore`) for storing your data locally. While we utilize standard mechanisms designed for local data storage and secure storage for sensitive information like API keys, please remember that no system is 100% secure. You are responsible for maintaining the security of the device where QuickPrompts is installed.
Data Retention
Your prompt data and settings remain stored locally on your device as long as the QuickPrompts extension or app is installed and the data is not deleted by you. You can delete your data at any time using the features within the app or extension options page.
User Rights (Data Control)
You have full control over the data stored by QuickPrompts on your device. You can:
- Access and Modify: View and edit your prompts through the extension's options page or the mobile app interface.
- Delete: Remove individual prompts or all prompt data directly within the Service. Uninstalling the extension or app will also typically remove associated local data, depending on your browser/OS settings.
- Export/Import: Use the built-in export feature to back up your prompts and the import feature to restore them.
Children's Privacy
QuickPrompts is not intended for use by children under the age of 13 (or the relevant age in your jurisdiction). We do not knowingly collect any information from children.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any significant changes by posting the new policy on this page and potentially through update notes in the respective app stores. You are advised to review this Privacy Policy periodically for any changes.
